The Patients of Morgellons Syndrome
Morgellons Syndrome is both a fascinating and a horrifying skin disease that is affection up to 3000 people, although many cases have yet to be diagnosed. It is predominately affecting people in Texas, along the gulf coast, California, and Florida although many cases have been found in each state.
Since doctors are often unwilling to give a direct diagnosis to this unusual disease it is often left to the patients to find their own diagnosis, usually on the Internet. The facts that are being put out there are incredibly vague as well as sometimes incorrect because the simple fact is that not enough people are aware or understand this disease. Morgellons Syndrome is an actual disease but some patients are being told otherwise.
The mental and physical strain being put on the patients with Morgellons Syndrome is extreme. There have been cases of many patients who see possibly 10 doctors only to be told they are having delusions. They are being told that their mind is making them think that they have parasites under their skin with no medical explanation given. The doctors are even dismissing the fibers that sprout from their skin as dirt.
There are patients that have committed suicide because they were in so much pain and no one has taken them seriously. Some doctors are aware of Morgellons Syndrome but because there is no actual medical proof they don’t feel it is real. They are the ones causing the patients to continue having these painful symptoms because they refuse to look at the research that states Lyme Disease antibiotics help to control the symptoms.
Together the patients have banned together in forums on the Internet, in chat rooms, and at research laboratories begging for something to be done. With the determination they were able to get the Morgellons Research Foundation formed so that they can start working on a cure for Morgellons Syndrome. They all have hope that someone can stop the powerful suffering that is continual in their daily lives, and in the lives of their family members.
